Over the course of 45 years, Lowell Williams designed print and screen graphics, packaging, identities, and environmental graphics for a wide range of clients. In his early career, Lowell worked in Los Angeles with legendary designer and film-maker Saul Bass. In 1975, he established Lowell Williams Design in Houston. Lowell joined Pentagram, the international design consultancy, as a partner in their San Francisco office in 1991, prior to opening Pentagram's Austin office in 1994. In 2007, he reestablished Lowell Williams Design, also in Austin.

In 2013, Lowell was presented the Fellow Award by the American Institute of Graphic Arts, Austin Chapter.

Throughout Lowell's career as graphic designer and art director, he orchestrated hundreds of photo shoots and directed thousands of individual images on his clients’ behalf. In 2007, he found himself taking an occasional photo associated with his design work. The idea caught on and he shot for many of his design clients.

Lowell now devotes his time to personal projects and photography that reflects his interests – the arts, furniture, music, landscape, and architecture.
